I convinced my mother to buy me bags of lollies; she didn’t really understand why I wanted them as I didn’t like sweets. I told her that I needed to take them to school to ‘negotiate’. I’d heard my dad use the term ‘negotiate’ a lot and understood the outcomes of a good negotiation; getting what I wanted.
I offered the lollies to the bullies; I bought their friendship and the foe became my friends!
Now as the Chief Executive at AWCCI (Australian Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry) I can’t use the lollies, unfortunately, but I still use my negotiation skills to sweeten things up and help others.
